Uncork the Flavor

So apparently, when you uncork a bottle of wine, you’re supposed to let it “breathe” for at least 45 minutes. This allows the wine to release aromas and flavors so that you experience the wine as it was intended. Who actually waits the 45 minutes? Um. Nobody.

That’s why, when a few of us here heard that the Vinturi Wine Aerator claimed to simulate the necessary breathing phase, we had to see if the proof was in the vino. Yes, we had to.

To put this aerator to a true test, we grabbed a bottle of $3 wine that we assumed would be difficult to, er, choke down, and tasted it directly after it was uncorked. Choke it down we did. Next, we poured the wine through the aerator and tasted again. Remarkably, a new wine was born. The aerator not only worked, it did the unthinkable—made a $3 bottle of wine enjoyable.

This calls for a toast! To the Vinturi—for creating something that sounds so snooty you’d never guess it was economical. Cheers.
