Our Shoe-In for Man of the Year

Tk.Africa2What’s the Noble facilities guy doing trekking across the world’s second largest continent with 500 pairs of new shoes? Good things, that’s what.

This May, our own Terry Kleier (aka TK to us), along with members of the Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church, boarded a plane and made the 16-hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa, followed by an 8-hour drive to Lesotho, a small land-locked country near the southern tip of Africa.

The group’s mission was two-part. First, to distribute shoes, medicine, clothing, and spiritual relief to a population in which 40% live below the international poverty level of $1.25 US dollars per day. Second, to create a documentary video that would inspire other churches to join them in their relief efforts.

When asked about his trip, TK beams with enthusiasm. “The country is unbelievably beautiful and the people there are so nice. They live in poverty but will do anything for you. In Lesotho, if someone gives you something, you have to take it. They have so little, and so when they offer a gift it is a great gesture.”

TK plans to make the trip again in the next year or two. And as soon as we get a peek at his video, we promise, we’ll post it.

Keep up the good work, Terry!
